
Lehigh moves up to fifth at Patriot League Championship after strong final day

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's golf team battled back from a tough day Saturday to shoot six over par 294 in the final round of the Patriot League Championship, Sunday at Colgate's Seven Oaks Golf Club. The strong finish propelled the Mountain Hawks into fifth place in the eight team field at 909 (303-312-294) as Lehigh moved past Navy on the final day of play.

Junior Harley Abrams shot a final round 71 to move into a tie for tenth place and earn second team All-Patriot League honors at 223 (75-77-71). Abrams finishes his Lehigh career as a three-time All-Patriot League performer, earning first team honors as a freshman in 2013 and second team honors in each of the last two seasons. He topped the field playing the par 5s in four under par for the championship and tied for fourth in par 3 scoring at three over par.

The low round for Lehigh in the championship was turned in by freshman Billy Johns, to shot two under par 70 on Sunday to move into a tie for 12th place at 224 (75-79-70).

All six Mountain Hawks broke 80 on Sunday. Senior Carlos Kim was Lehigh's No. 3 finisher, tying for 22nd place at 231 (77-80-74). Junior Dave Olexson, sophomore Brendan Worthy and senior Zach Allinson all carded final rounds of 79. Olexson tied for 27th place at 233 (76-78-79), while Worthy finished three strokes behind at 236 (79-78-79) to tie for 36th place. Allinson capped his Lehigh career with a 43rd place finish at 243 (85-79-79).

Loyola captured its second straight Patriot League championship and will make its eighth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The Greyhounds finished at two under par 862 (287-281-294) to beat Army West Point by six strokes.

The Greyhounds had the top two individual finishers as Matt Oshrine took home the individual title at one under par 215, one stroke better than teammate Jeremy Wall.

Lehigh will lose three players who competed in the Patriot League Championship to graduation in Kim, Allinson and Abrams. All three men were key contributors to the Mountain Hawks' Patriot League Championship team in 2013.
