
Mountain Hawks head to Delaware State Monday night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Lehigh women's basketball team aims to stay undefeated on the young season Monday night when the Mountain Hawks head to Delaware State for a 7 p.m. non-league contest.
The Mountain Hawks carry an unblemished 3-0 record into Monday's contest and are coming off a dominant 75-47 win at NJIT Thursday night. Junior Lexi Martins set a new Lehigh and Patriot League record with 23 rebounds and added a game-high 19 points to help the Mountain Hawks move to 3-0 for the second-straight season.
Martins broke the school and Patriot League record of 22 set by teammate Kerry Kinek at Bucknell on February 20, 2013. Kinek scored 14 points and added nine rebounds while sophomore Quinci Mann also hit for double figures with 15.
The Mountain Hawks shot 54.7 percent from the field, including 7-of-21 from beyond the three point line. Lehigh also limited NJIT to just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc. Lehigh held a commanding 47-22 edge on the glass.
Martins currently leads the nation with 19.0 rebounds per game and also averages a team-best 20.0 points per game. Kinek follows with marks of 18.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per contest. Lehigh has averaged a league-best 83.7 points per game while holding its opponents to a mark of 62.0 points. The Mountain Hawks also hold an impressive +16.0 rebounding margin.
The Hornets will be searching for their first win of the season Monday night as Delaware State carries a 3-0 record into the contest against Lehigh.
The Hornets dropped a 77-43 decision at Pittsburgh in their most recent action Friday night. Delaware State stayed within striking distance for much of the game, but the Panthers outscored the Hornets 22-2 in the final quarter en route to the 34-point win. Delaware State dropped a 77-34 contest at West Virginia in the season opener before falling to Mount St. Mary's at home, 54-41 in the Hornets' second game of the year.
Amber Bogard leads the Hornets with 8.7 points per game, while NaJai Pollard has collected a team-best 4.7 rebounds per game. Delaware State is averaging 39.3 points per game and has been outscored by a margin of 30 points per game. The Hornets also hold a -16.3 rebound margin and are shooting just 25.5 percent from the field in their three games this season.
Lehigh and Delaware State will be meeting for the first time on Monday. The Mountain Hawks are 3-2 all-time vs. current members of the MEAC. Lehigh is earned an 85-67 win over Hampton last season in the Mountain Hawks' most recent meeting with a MEAC team. Lehigh is 2-2 against UMES and 1-0 against Morgan State.
Following Monday night's game, Lehigh returns home to host Saint Peter's at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening before hosting the Christmas City Classic Saturday and Sunday inside Stabler Arena.
