HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Lehigh men's cross country team raced to a fourth place finish at the 2015 Patriot League Championships on Saturday morning on the campus of Colgate University. Sophomore Patrick Reilly led the Mountain Hawks with a Second Team All-Patriot League performance, finishing in 14th place overall (25:27.7). Navy used 19 points to win the team championship and swept the top four individual spots, while placing five runners in the top nine overall. The team title is the Midshipmen's seventh title in the last eight seasons. Boston University accumulated 88 points to take second place, just three points ahead of third place Army. The Mountain Hawks finished four points behind the Cadets with 95 points.
Senior Evan Hardy was the second Mountain Hawk across the finish line, placing 16th overall in 25:30.9. Fellow senior Sean Burke was the next Lehigh runner to finish, coming in 22nd overall in 25:36.9. Just under three seconds later, Nicholas Hirdt completed the race with a time of 25:39.7, good for 24th overall.
Senior Evan Ward crossed the finish line in 28th place in 25:44.6, sophomore Kyle Kirk in came in 32nd place, and Ryan Cooney rounded out the Mountain Hawks' top seven in 36th place and a time of 26:01.7.
"I'm a little disappointed with the results," said head coach Todd Etters. "It was really tough competing with Navy, as we knew it would be, but we didn't run tough enough. If you want to compete for a Patriot League Championship you have to tough throughout. The teams that beat us ran better.
"I don't think it was Pat's best performance," Etters added. "But he was able to hold on down the stretch for his first all-league performance, and we'll take that."
Sophomore Joseph Inglis also competed for Lehigh, placing 42nd overall with a time of 26:12.2, while freshman Mitchell Daddario added a 54th place tally of 26:34.0. Junior Alex Fitzgerald (26:43.3) and sophomore John Tolbert (26:43.7) finished back to back in 59th and 60th place, respectively. Junior Kyle Leonard also competed, placing 69th overall with a time of 27:01.8.
Lehigh's top seven runners will next compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals on Friday, November 13 in Princeton, N.J.
