BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two returning Lehigh All-Americans have been selected to compete in the 50th annual Hire Heroes NWCA All-Star Classic, presented by the Wrestlers in Business Network, Sunday November 1, at McCamish Pavilion on the campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. Senior Mason Beckman will make his third consecutive All-Star Classic appearance at 133 pounds, while senior Nathaniel Brown will compete at 184 in his first All-Star appearance.
Â
Last year's NCAA runner-up at 184, Brown will face Edinboro's Vic Avery, in a bout that was announced on September 23. Brown went 29-6 in 2014-15, earning his first All-America medal after reaching the national finals. He carries a 67-19 record into his senior season. In addition to his second place NCAA finish, Brown took second at the EIWA Championships and third at the Southern Scuffle.
Â
Brown and Avery met once last season, with Brown earning a 3-1 decision at Grapple at the Garden in New York last December. Avery reached the NCAA semifinals last season and finished third at 184.
Â
A two-time All-American, Beckman will become the first Lehigh wrestler to compete in three NWCA All-Star Classic meets. He defeated Edinboro's A.J. Schopp in November 2013 and lost the rematch to Schopp last November. Beckman has finished sixth at each of the last two NCAA Championships. Last year, Beckman went 30-8 and wrestled back from a first round loss to earn All-America honors. He also finished second in the EIWA and third at the Southern Scuffle.
Â
Beckman will face 2015 All-American Rossi Bruno of Michigan, who finished eighth at 133 last season. Bruno defeated Beckman 7-5 in a tiebreaker in the semifinals of last year's Southern Scuffle.
Â
This will mark the fourth straight year Lehigh had at least one wrestler compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic. Lehigh wrestlers own a 16-13 career record at the All-Star Classic. Mike Caruso was the first Lehigh wrestler to compete in the classic, defeating Jim Hanson of Colorado 6-3 in 1967.
Â
The Hire Heroes NWCA All-Star Classic, presented by the Wrestlers in Business Network is set for November 1 at 5 p.m. at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion.
