BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior All-American Mason Beckman will be returning to the NWCA All-Star Classic, it was announced Tuesday. He will be facing a familiar foe at the 49th All-Star Classic, November 1 at the Palestra in Philadelphia. Beckman will face Edinboro All-American A.J. Schopp at 133 pounds in a rematch from last year's classic, where Beckman won a 5-1 decision and earned Outstanding Wrestler honors for his team.

After deferring his eligibility in 2012-13, Beckman came back strong last season posting a 28-6 overall record. Beckman won the EIWA title at 133 and went on to earn All-America honors for the first time with his sixth place finish at the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma City.

In addition, Beckman was 15-1 in dual meets and earned bonus points in 11 of his 28 victories with one fall, three technical falls and seven major decisions.

The Transfer, Pa., product owns a 55-17 career record. A supply chain management major, Beckman was named to the NWCA All-Academic Team at the conclusion of last season.

Schopp, a senior, will be appearing in the NWCA All-Star Classic for the third consecutive year. He was the No. 2 seed at last year's NCAA Championships and capped a 35-3 season with a fourth place finish.

In addition to Beckman's win over Schopp in last year's All-Star Classic, the two men locked horns in the consolation semifinals at the Midlands Championships, with Schopp prevailing 5-0.

Beckman and Schopp split two matches at the King of the Mountain tournament during Beckman's freshman year at Reynolds High School. Beckman also owns a freestyle victory over Schopp at the 2012 ASICS University Freestyle Nationals.

When Beckman competes at the Palestra November 1, it will mark the third consecutive year in which Lehigh had at least one wrestler compete in the NWCA All-Star Classic. Robert Hamlin '13 defeated Kevin Steinhaus of Minnesota at 184 in November 2012 and last year Joey Napoli '14 edged Nestor Taffur of Boston University at 157 in addition to Beckman's win over Schopp.

Lehigh wrestlers own a 16-13 career record at the All-Star Classic, and have won their last four bouts. Mike Caruso was the first Lehigh wrestler to compete in the classic, defeating Jim Hanson of Colorado 6-3 in 1967.

The NWCA All-Star Classic, presented by the United States Marine Corps and Wrestlers in Business Network, and hosted by Penn and WIBN-Philadelphia is set for November 1 at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Penn Ticket Office by clicking here.
