Lehigh falls short against Villanova 3-1

The Mountain Hawks traveled to Hatfield Pennsylvania on Saturday night to face the Villanova Ice Cats. It was Lehigh's first game of the 2014-2015 season. The men did not want a repeat of the 10-3 loss at the hands of the Ice Cats the last time the two teams faced each other in Hatfield last season. The game was filled with penalties, 25 to be exact, and the score could've been alot higher but excellent goaltending on both sides of the ice prevented that. The Ice Cats forward Nick Schultz was the difference maker, having a hand in all 3 Villanova goal. Schult's first contribution of the evening came at the 5:33 mark when he snuck a shot past Lehigh goalie Paul Sjostrom. The next goal came towards the end of the 1st period, at the 15:14 mark, off a Jack Skaggs shot assisted by Schultz. Lehigh then brought it to within one when defensman and captain Adam Goldstein fired a beautiful slap shot past Villanova goaltender Mike Harper at the 6:23 mark of the 2nd period. The final tally of the game came at the 12:56 mark of the 2nd period when Villanova's Troy Donahue fired a shot past Sjostrom, which was assisted by Schultz. Even with the loss, the players and coaches kept their heads held high, happy with the effort that was put in. If this team plays as hard every game as they did Saturday night, I am very confident you will see a significant rise in the amount of wins from last year.
