PHILADELPHIA – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team completed one of its most successful dual meet seasons in recent history with a 163-131 victory at Drexel Saturday at Drexel Pool inside the DAC. The Mountain Hawks won nine of 16 events, including four top-three sweeps in their final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships.

Sophomore Courtney Patterson won three individual events while junior Alissa Leung and freshman Kaitlyn Ruffing won two apiece to lead Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks finish the dual season at 7-2.

"We won both the men's and women's meets and we had to swim well to do it," said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. "The team went out and did just that. They did not stop pressing. It was a great effort until the very end."

Ruffing set a pair of pool records in the sprint freestyle events, first winning the 50 yard freestyle in 23.88 seconds and then taking the 100 free in 52.32.

Two of Patterson's three wins came in the distance freestyle races, while the third came in the 200 yard individual medley. Lehigh swept the top three spots in all three events. Patterson won the 1000 free in 10:33.44 with freshmen Cora Summerfield and Valerie Lauer taking second and third respectively. She also won the 500 free in 5:11.54 with Summerfield finishing second and junior Madeleine Smith taking third. In the 200 IM, Patterson posted a winning time of 2:10.91 with Leung taking second and junior Kimberly Weyand finishing third.

Leung swept the backstroke events, taking the 100 in 58.81 seconds and the 200 in 2:06.79.

Lehigh's fourth sweep came in the 200 yard butterfly where junior Mary Samuels won the event in 2:10.21 with Summerfield and Lauer finishing second and third.

In the final women's event of the meet, the Mountain Hawks captured the 200 free relay, with Ruffing swimming the anchor along with sophomore Carolyn Koch, freshman Kelly Carroll and senior Stephanie Yaszemski. The team posted a time of 1:37.04 to close out the victory.

The Mountain Hawks will now set their sights on the Patriot League Championships, February 19-22 in Annapolis, Md.
