BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team worked it's way to a strong win against West Chester in its home opener Friday night, dominating the Golden Rams with a final score of 213-80 at Jacobs Pool.
Â
"We came out and swam really well today," said head coach Rob Herb. "Our women were expected to win and just dominated."
Â
The Mountain Hawks won every single event they swam in, with sophomore Kaitlyn Ruffing leading the sprint rush, winning the 50 free, the 100 free, and serving at the anchor in both winning relays, the 400 free and the 400 IM. Ruffing was accompanied by junior Carolyn Koch, finishing in second place in the 50 and 100 free. Freshman Julianne Koch won the 200 free while senior Alissa Leung won the 100 and 200 backstroke.
Â
"The sprint events are our keystone," said Herb. "The relay events were great, both men's and women's 100 and 50 were just fantastic."
Â
Junior Courtney Patterson and sophomore Cora Summerfield led the way in the distance event for the Mountain Hawks, with Summerfield winning the 1000 free and Patterson winning the 500 free. Patterson also picked up a win in the 200 IM with sophomore Kelly Carroll close behind in second place. Â
Â
"Our distance group has been together for a while so we're very solid", said Herb. "Our women's team continues to win the distance events and make really good times that are making marks in the league."
