BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding two straight victories, the Lehigh men's basketball team looks for its third consecutive win when it hosts rival Bucknell on Wednesday. Tipoff in Stabler Arena is set for 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a hard-fought 71-68 win over archrival Lafayette on Saturday to improve to 10-11 overall and 3-5 in Patriot League play. Lehigh and Bucknell have won each of the last four league championships - alternating seasons from 2010 through 2013.
Â
The Mountain Hawks won the 2010 Patriot League Championship, followed by Bucknell in 2011, Lehigh in 2012 and the Bison last season. Both are in the midst of up-and-down 2013-14 seasons, entering one game under .500.
Â
Wednesday's game will be exclusively aired online on the Patriot League Network with Ray Crawford and Chris Spatola on the call.
Â
At halftime of Wednesday's game, the Bucks County Bungee Jumpers Jump Rope Team will be performing at halftime.
Â
Following an overtime win at Navy, the Mountain Hawks edged Lafayette, 71-68, giving Lehigh its first win over the Leopards since the 2011-12 season. Lafayette won all three games a season ago. Big men Justin Goldsborough and Tim Kempton spearheaded the charge with 19 points apiece. Goldsborough, a sophomore, scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting. He added a game-high eight rebounds along with three blocks. Kempton scored 19 as well on 7-of-10 shooting. That, combined with his 15 points at Navy, was enough for his third Patriot League Rookie of the Week honor.
Â
Junior Corey Schaefer scored 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting while senior Mackey McKnight scored only six points, but was critical in other areas in a 39-minute effort. He added seven rebounds (within one of a career high), nine assists and did not turn the ball over. Junior Stefan Cvrkalj scored eight points on 3-of-6 shooting, one game after scoring 14 second-half points at Navy.
Â
Lehigh vs. Bucknell has developed into an impressive rivalry over the past few seasons. The Mountain Hawks have lost three straight to Bucknell at home, winning at Bucknell three times in the mean time. Included was an 82-77 win in the 2012 Patriot League Championship Game.
Â
Road teams have won the last five meetings over the past two seasons. Six straight Lehigh-Bucknell games have been decided by seven points or less, including three by three points or fewer.
Â
Bucknell topped Lehigh last Feb. 18 to snap Lehigh's three-game winning streak in the all-time series. All three of those victories came on the road. The last time the Mountain Hawks won at home came on Feb. 24, 2010 (three game losing streak to Bucknell at home). Lehigh has still won three of its last four against the Bison, beginning during the 2011-12 regular season followed by an 82-77 Patriot League Championship Game win then an impressive 65-62 victory at Sojka Pavilion, despite the loss of C.J. McCollum to injury. Bucknell marks Lehigh's second most-played rivalry (only behind Lafayette). The first meeting between the two sides came in 1901-02, a 38-16 Bucknell victory.
Â
Bucknell has enjoyed an up and down season so far, beating Penn State in its second game after a slim 72-68 loss at Stanford in the opener. The Bison are 4-4 in Patriot League play, coming off a home loss to Boston University. Bucknell won three straight league games in early January, over Colgate, Lafayette and Holy Cross. All-Patriot League honoree Cameron Ayers leads the team in scoring (14.4 points per game) while Chris Haas averages 10.8, Brian Fitzpatrick 9.6 and Ben Brackney 8.8. Steven Kaspar leads the team in assists (5.1) while Ayers owns a team-leading 4.7 rebounds per contest.
Â
Lehigh begins the second round of Patriot League play when it travels to Boston University on Saturday. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m. After a trip to Army, the Mountain Hawks return home to host Loyola on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online, including a print-at-home option, or by calling the ticket office at 610-7LU-GAME (610-758-4263).
