Mahalsky named Patriot League Runner of the Week

Patriot League Weekly Awards - 9/1/13
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Mountain Hawk junior Ryan Mahalsky was named the Patriot League Male Runner of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday. Mahalsky was the top finisher in the 6k Lehigh Invitational and placed first out of 184 runners with a time of 18:46.75.
The time gave Mahalsky his first collegiate win and was nine seconds faster than the second-place runner. The Hillsborough, N.J. native led the Mountain Hawks to their fourth-straight Lehigh Invitational title. Lehigh finished ahead of a La Salle team that placed in front of Lehigh in the preseason Mid-Atlantic Regional poll.
This is the first Runner of the Week award of Mahalsky's career. He improved on his fourth place finish at last year's Lehigh Invitational. The political science major was named the team's 2012 Athlete of the Year at the end-of-the-year banquet. This is Lehigh's first Runner of the Week award since the week of October 3, 2011, when senior Evans Kosgei garnered the accolade.
Mahalsky and the Mountain Hawks will return to action on September 21 when they head to Easton, Pa. to take on Lafayette in a dual meet.
