BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After playing seven of its first nine games away from home, the Lehigh men's basketball team returns home for three straight games in the friendly confines of Stabler Arena, beginning on Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. UMBC. The Mountain Hawks have won two straight games and three of their last four, beating Sacred Heart last Sunday (76-64) and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday (57-50). Freshman Tim Kempton led the effort on Wednesday, posting 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for his first-career double-double.

Saturday will mark the first matchup with UMBC since the 1997-98 season. Out of the America East, the Retrievers are 3-6 on the season, owning a strong 3-1 home record but are 0-5 on the road.

The combination of Kempton, junior Corey Schaefer (14 points), freshman Austin Price and senior Mackey McKnight (12) scored 56 of Lehigh's 57 points on Wednesday, with freshman Shane Whitfield owning the other. Price added three rebounds, a career-high four steals and two blocks in a strong bounce back effort. McKnight scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half, including a big three-point play with 2:24 remaining which gave Lehigh a four-point lead. Saint Francis (Pa.) didn't pull any closer from that point forward. For the second time in its four wins this season, Lehigh never trailed. The Mountain Hawks also picked up a wire-to-wire win over Texas Southern.

McKnight enters Saturday needing just two assists to move into third place on the Lehigh career assists list. The New Orleans native owns double-figure assists in both home games this season.

The Mountain Hawks look to continue their home success after beating Rider (92-78) and Sacred Heart (76-64). Lehigh has scored 168 points through its first two home games, most since the 1994-95 season when it scored 184 over its first two home contests. The Mountain Hawks remain home for their next two games, hosting three-time defending NEC Champion LIU Brooklyn on Monday (Dec. 9) then following a break for final exams, Quinnipiac on Dec. 21.

Lehigh is eying its sixth straight home win dating back to last season. The Mountain Hawks look to inch closer to 1,000 wins as a program; they currently only 997.

Lehigh has already seen four double-doubles this season, including three in a two-game span. McKnight had the first double-double with 14 points and 10 assists in the home opener against Rider. McKnight posted 11 points and a career-high 11 assists in the next home game vs. Sacred Heart (Dec. 1) while Chuku enjoyed a monster game with a career-high 26 points and 15 boards. That preceded Kempton's 18 points and 15 rebounds on Wednesday.

The Mountain Hawks had six double-doubles all last season and seven during the Patriot League Championship season in 2011-12.

UMBC owns a 3-6 record, but is 0-5 on the road. The Retrievers are led by Rodney Elliott, who averages a team-leading 13.6 points per game and three assists per contest. Chase Plummer is coming off a 27-point effort last time out at Duquesne and averages 13.0 points and a team-leading 6.6 rebounds. Malik Garner comes in at 12.3 points and 4.6 rebounds, starting all nine games. UMBC averages 72.1 points but has given up 79.1 per contest. Opponents have shot 45.8 percent against the Retrievers.

UMBC holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series. The Retrievers won the first two meetings before Lehigh won in the last meeting on Feb. 9, 1998 by a 90-87 final (in overtime).

The Mountain Hawks return to Stabler Arena in two days when they host LIU Brooklyn on Monday. Then, following a 12-day break for final exams, Lehigh will welcome Quinnipiac on Saturday, Dec. 21. Tickets are available online, including a print-at-home option, or by calling the ticket office at 610-7LU-GAME (610-758-4263). Individual game tickets are only five dollars (in advance) and season tickets are also available.
