Ward named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following two more strong performances, Lehigh freshman goalie Julia Ward was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. Ward stopped 26-of-30 shots on the weekend, making 17 saves in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Boston University before stopping nine in Sunday's big 2-1 victory over Lock Haven.

The Patriot League weekly honor marks Ward's first of her career and Lehigh's third this season. Freshman Marissa Glatt has been named Rookie of the Week on two separate occasions.

For the week, Ward had an impressive .867 save percentage to increase her season save percentage to .764. She made 17 stops against the Terriers Saturday to keep Lehigh within striking distance in a key Patriot League showdown. It marked her third game this season with double-digit saves.

The Belfast, Maine native was even better on Sunday against Lock Haven, stopping 9-of-10 sent her way. Among those stops was one with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation when she stymied a clean Lock Haven breakaway to keep the score tied at one. Lehigh went on to capitalize with sophomore Zoey Pacheco's game-winning goal. In total, Ward and the defense kept Lock Haven scoreless for the game's final 58:59.

The Mountain Hawks handed the Bald Eagles just their fourth loss of the season (compared to 10 victories). Lock Haven's only other defeats have come against nationally-ranked North Carolina and Penn State, along with Saint Francis (Pa.).

Pacheco also garnered honorable mention recognition for her first-career goal on Sunday, which proved to be the game-winner.

Lehigh now hits the road for the next three games beginning with a big Patriot League showdown with Colgate on Saturday at 1 p.m.
