LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Lehigh field hockey team dropped its second straight game on Sunday, falling at Rider by an 8-0 final. The Mountain Hawks were within 1-0 for the first 20 minutes until the Broncs scored three times in 1:24 to effectively put the game away. Sophomore goalie Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson made 14 saves in the defeat.
Rider got the scoring started at the 12:40 mark when Marlaine Schneider finished a cross from Sandra Penas. The Broncs then scored three times in just over a minute, beginning at 20:01, to make it 4-0. Rachel Ippolite later added Rider's fifth goal just before halftime.
After being outshot 21-2 in the first half, Lehigh improved in the second to only trail 9-3. However, Rider converted three of its nine chances for the 8-0 final.
A day after scoring her first-career goal, freshman Lindsey Schott led the Mountain Hawks with three shots and both of Lehigh's shots on goal. Freshman Abigail Bakke and senior Kim Eng had the others.
Rider held the final edge in shots, 30-5, and penalty corners, 13-5. Maltinsky-Wilson finished with 14 saves while freshman Sophie Fitzpatrick came in to make one over the final 16:22. A pair of Broncs' keepers combined for two stops.
