Mountain Hawks return home to host NEC foes this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team will look to carry its momentum from a 3-2 win over Georgetown when it hosts Sacred Heart this Friday at 7 p.m. and Monmouth on Sunday at 12 p.m.. The Mountain Hawks have won two of their last three games, the only loss coming against #6 nationally-ranked Penn State.
 
Lehigh held a 2-0 lead at halftime against Georgetown after senior Kim Eng and junior Emily Torcivia tallied goals in the game's first 7:15. The Mountain Hawks fought off the Hoyas' comeback attempt thanks to a second-half goal from sophomore Lindsay Metzger and six total saves from sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson. It marked Lehigh's first win against the Hoyas since 2009 and first on the road since 2005.
 
Metzger and Eng are now tied for the team and Patriot League lead in points with 13. Metzger has recorded a league-leading six goals, and an assist, while Eng has posted five goals (second in the Patriot League) and three assists.
 
Maltinsky-Wilson and freshman Sophie Fitzpatrick have shared time in net thus far, with Maltinsky-Wilson seeing slightly more action. She currently leads the Patriot League in saves (64) and saves per game (9.14), and is second in save percentage (75.3). Maltinsky-Wilson holds a 3.35 goals against average for the season.
 
Sacred Heart enters Friday with a 4-2 record, most recently falling 5-0 to Rutgers. Freshman and former Lehigh women's soccer player Liz Bergman leads the team in goals with three and is tied for the team lead in points with her sister Sarah Bergman, a sophomore; Sarah has registered two goals and two assists. Mary Altepeter has seen the majority of time in goal, posting a 2.27 GAA and 70.2 save percentage.
Lehigh and Sacred Heart first squared off in 2004, a 2-1 loss, and most recently met last season, a 6-4 defeat. The Mountain Hawks trail the all-time series against the Pioneers, 1-4 with their win coming in the 2010 season opener, a 4-1 final.
 
The Mountain Hawks lead the all-time series against Monmouth, 6-5, despite falling 4-1 to the Hawks a season ago. The first meeting between the teams came in 1997, a 3-1 Lehigh victory.
 
Monmouth enters the weekend 0-8, playing at Saint Joseph's Friday before heading to Lehigh Sunday. Senior Michelle Pieczynski leads the team with six goals and 13 points. Junior Terea Mathews has played all 564:16 in net for the Hawks, holding a 4.84 GAA.
 
Following this weekend, Lehigh will look ahead to its Patriot League opener on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 11 a.m. vs. Holy Cross. The Mountain Hawks then play at nonleague foe Rider on Sunday at 12 p.m.
