Lehigh earns impressive 169-125 win at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. - The Lehigh women's swimming and diving team picked up a 169-125 win over Lafayette on Friday in a dominant team effort. The Mountain Hawks (1-2) placed first in 12 of 14 swimming events to beat Lafayette for a fifth straight year.
“Both teams were down big after diving and swam incredibly to make up 20 and 30 point deficits to win,” said head coach Rob Herb. “It was a true team effort on both the men's and women's sides. We needed a lot of 1-2 and 1-2-3 finishes to make up the points and they did. It's an amazing start to Lehigh-Lafayette weekend.”
The men also beat Lafayette for a fifth straight year, 172-126.
The 400 Medley Relay team of sophomore Alissa Leung, senior Emily DiDonato, sophomore Mary Samuels and freshman Carolyn Koch set the tone with a first-place finish of 4:00.97. The Mountain Hawks went on to finish 1-2 in the 1,000 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke and 200 Butterfly. Lehigh placed 1-2-3 in the 200 Breaststroke and 200 IM.
Freshman Courtney Patterson, the reigning Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, came in first in two of those, the 1,000 Freestyle (10:29.55) and 200 Butterfly (2:09.99). She was also first in the 500 Freestyle (5:12.43) while swimming on the winning 400 Freestyle Relay team (3:38.40).
Meanwhile, Koch finished first in two individual races - 200 Freestyle (1:55.33) and 100 Freestyle (53.31) - to go with the top 400 Medley Relay finish. DiDonato captured the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.03) and 200 Breakstroke (2:26.09) while Leung won three other races herself: the 100 Backstroke (1:00.91), 200 Backstroke (2:11.46) and 200 IM (2:14.50).
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the U.S. Nationals in Austin, Texas.
