Lehigh women come up short against strong Colgate squad

10/27/2012 10:56:00 PM | Women's Swimming and Diving

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Despite a valiant effort, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team dropped its first Patriot League meet to Colgate 79-32 Saturday at Lineberry Natatorium. The Mountain Hawks hung tough against the perennial league championship contending Raiders, and a strong Yale squad that also competed in the meet as an exhibition.

The Lehigh women once again benefitted from several strong performances from the freshman class. Cady Zawatson picked up big points for Lehigh winning against Colgate in both the 1000 free and the 500 free. Zawatson posted a 10:25.91 in the 1000 and 5:10.71 in the 500. Freshman Courtney Patterson finished second overall in both the 200 free and the 200 fly for two of Lehigh's other impressive finishes.

Another freshman, Carolyn Koch, also had a strong day, finishing third overall in the 50 free and placing second in the 100 free with a time of 53.63 seconds.

“It was a valiant performance by the women in a losing effort,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “Cady Zawatson was a double winner again to lead the way. We had some very strong swims overall against a Patriot League Championship contender.”
