BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In its first meet in nearly six weeks, Lehigh's women's swimming and diving team hung tough with a very good Marist team Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks battled hard against the defending MAAC champions and had several strong individual performances in a 171-129 loss.

“It was a great meet from our women,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “Today was the closest we've been against a very good Marist team in a long time. Alissa Leung and Alyssa Siano among others did great work.”

Leung swept the 100 and 200 backstroke events while Siano had strong efforts in the 200 fly and 500 free.

On the day Lehigh won four of the 16 events against the defending MAAC Champions. Leung picked up Lehigh's first win, taking the 100 back in 1:00.43, with junior Brooke Smalley and senior Lauren Armstrong adding third and fourth place finish respectively. She later took the 200 back in 2:08.59.

Freshman Mary Samuels led a 1-2 finish in the 200 fly, winning in 2:11.36 with Siano finishing second. Smalley led a Lehigh sweep in the 100 fly with a time of 59.54 seconds. Sophomore Meredith Bayer took second while Samuels finished in third.

Junior Emily DiDonato also had a strong day for Lehigh, leading the Mountain Hawks to 2-3-4 finishes in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events.

The loss drops Lehigh to 3-3 in dual meets this season.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Friday January 13 when they square off against Patriot League rival Army. The meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start from Crandall Pool.
