WEST POINT, N.Y. – Freshman Alissa Leung once again swept the backstroke events, but host Army won 11 of the 16 events on the night as the Black Knights downed the Mountain Hawks 171-129 Friday night at Crandall Pool. Junior Emily DiDonato also won a pair of events for the Mountain Hawks, but the Black Knights were a bit too strong. Lehigh falls to 3-4 overall on the season and 2-2 against league opponents.
The meet started strong for Lehigh as the Mountain Hawks won the meet-opening 400 yard medley relay. Leung and DiDonato teamed with junior Brooke Smalley and senior Paola Simon to post a time of 4:02.09.
The reigning Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week, Leung captured the 100 yard backstroke in 59.58 seconds and added a win in the 200 back in 2:06.52. She also took second place in the 200 yard individual medley.
Despite winning just five events, the Mountain Hawks were competitive picking up a number of second and third place finishes. Army benefitted from top three sweeps in both diving events and top two finishes in the 50 free, the 500 free and the 100 fly.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool next Saturday for their final home meet of the season when Lehigh hosts Bucknell. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start from Jacobs Pool.
