BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Alissa Leung and junior Emily DiDonato each won two individual events to lead Lehigh in its final home meet of the season, a 189-111 loss to Bucknell Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks totaled five event wins against the Bison, who perennially boast one of the top women's teams in the Patriot League.
“Our guys and girls are quite beat up at the moment but we did swim well against a Patriot League powerhouse,” said Lehigh head coach Rob Herb. “I am proud of our effort. We raced and performed well under some very difficult circumstances.”
Leung continued to be a force in the backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 58.30 seconds and the 200 in 2:05.36. She also competed in the 200 yard individual medley, finishing second in 2:11.15.
DiDonato emerged victorious in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke events, touching the wall in 1:08.06 in the 100 and 2:05.63 in the 200.
Smalley and freshmen Madeleine Smith and Taylor Wise added runner-up finishes for the Mountain Hawks. Smalley took runner-up honors in the 100 yard butterfly in 59.91, while Smith took second in the 200 free in 1:58.48 and Wise took second the 100 free with a time of 54.91.
“We have been training for almost 21 days straight,” Herb said. “It is time to rest the troops and get them ready for Patriot Leagues and end of year swims."
The Mountain Hawks will split their squad next weekend with some athletes competing at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md. and others swimming at Drexel Saturday at 1 p.m.
