The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks have kicked off the New Year by signing some big Division I names to the 2012 roster. The newest additions to the team are DB Marvin Johnson from the University of Oregon, who played in the 2010 Rose Bowl and last year's BCS National Championship game; and K Chris Hazley from Virginia Tech who was First Team All-ACC and named a Rivals.com 2nd team All-American for the 2010 season.
Johnson is a powerful defensive back and special team's player who appeared in 49 games with the Oregon Ducks. In his four years he tallied 79 tackles. In 2009, he was awarded the Wilson Award for most outstanding special team's player. He was a part of the Oregon team that went to the Rose Bowl in 2010 and that played Auburn in the BCS National championship game last year.
Hazley signed on as the Steelhawks place kicker for 2012. He was highly successful last season hitting a VTech record 20 straight field goals and making 53 of 56 point after attempts. He signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills following his 2010 season.
The Steelhawks are excited about these latest additions to the team and will look to add more local talent at their last open tryout before the start of the 2012 season. The tryout will be on January 21st at BucksMont Indoor Sports Complex.
The Steelhawks will be bringing back the fast paced, exciting action of Indoor Football to Stabler Arena at the beginning on February 24.
