Mountain Hawks fall at Saint Francis, 3-0

LORETTO, Pa. - Despite playing Saint Francis to a scoreless first half, the Lehigh field hockey team fell victim to a second-half surge in dropping a 3-0 final to the Red Flash on Sunday. Playing its second game in three days, the Mountain Hawks (0-2) struggled to get much going, firing five shots on the afternoon. Lehigh returns to action on Friday when it travels to Monmouth to take on the Hawks.
 
“We had trouble with the field turf and Saint Francis capitalized,” said Lehigh head coach Stacey Blue. “We'll make adjustments this week to prepare for Monmouth.”
 
The Red Flash came out strong in the first half, firing 10 shots, but freshman Sydney Maltinsky-Wilson was even stronger in goal, making three saves to keep it scoreless after 35 minutes.
 
Saint Francis converted its first goal early in the second to make it 1-0. Autumn Pellman got the scoring started at 41:57 with her first of two goals. Jocelyn Scillia made it 2-0 exactly eight minutes later while Pellman added her second at the 68:25 mark.
 
Lehigh freshman Emily Hu made a pair of defensive saves to up her season total to three in only two games. The Mountain Hawks now have five defensive saves on the year; junior Carly Smith and sophomore Marie Mignogna own the others, coming against Georgetown on Friday. Junior Kim Eng led the offense with three shots while junior Melissa Kuhns and senior Caitlin Donnelly had the others.
Saint Francis held a 20-5 shot advantage and 9-2 on penalty corners. Maltinsky-Wilson made seven saves in a solid effort while Jill DiCola stopped all four sent her way. 
 
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday when they travel to Monmouth to take on the Hawks. Lehigh returns home two days later, hosting La Salle next Sunday (Sept. 11) at 1 p.m.
