BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freshman Alissa Leung won three individual events as the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team evened its season record with a 169-111 win over Rider Saturday at Jacobs Pool. The Mountain Hawks won ten of the 16 events as Lehigh picked up its first win over Rider on the women's side since Rob Herb became head coach.
“Steve Fletcher and his Rider team always put up a tough battle,” Herb said. They are good. Today, however, our Lehigh team fought through every race. Everything was left in the water. They did a super job!”
Junior Emily DiDonato swept the breaststroke events, taking the 100 in 1:07.34 and leading a top three Lehigh sweep in the 200 with a time of 2:26.25. Freshman Kim Weyand and junior Danielle Caruso took second and third respectively to DiDonato.
Senior Paola Simon captured the 50 free in a time of 25.15 seconds with the Mountain Hawks taking both relays, the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Leung swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay with DiDonato, Simon and sophomore Meredith Bayer also contributing to the victory. Simon also swam the anchor leg of the 400 free relay with senior Priscilla Barletta and freshmen Taylor Wise and Madeline Smith also part of the team.
On the diving boards, sophomore Mercy Du competed unopposed and picked up 18 crucial points in the one and three meter events.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the pool next weekend at the two-day Princeton Invitational, Friday in New Jersey.
