BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Segear has been named the program's first-ever Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year while she and three others earned All-League honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Segear and junior Kim Eng cracked the First Team while sophomore Marie Mignogna and freshman Steph Fratoni earned Second Team honors.
Segear becomes Lehigh's first major award winner since Eng was Rookie of the Year in 2009. The sophomore standout was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a season that featured 11 double-digit save performances in 16 games played (all starts). Segear leads the Patriot League in both saves (184) and save percentage (.783). Her highlight games include a 15-save shutout of Bucknell and a career-high 22 saves against Rider. Segear finished with double-digit saves in each of her first three career games - 16 at Monmouth (9/9), 14 vs. La Salle (9/11) and 13 at Quinnipiac (9/14).
Eng earns her second All-League honor after being named Patriot League Rookie of the Year and First Team All-League as a freshman. She has led the offense in 2011, posting a team-high 24 points via 10 goals and four assists. Eng racked up points in all three league wins this season, scoring against Colgate and at Holy Cross while assisting on the game's only goal against Bucknell. In total, Eng has recorded at least one point in 11 of 18 games, led by a two-goal, four-point effort at Sacred Heart.
Meanwhile, cracking the Second Team were Mignogna and Fratoni. Mignogna is one of six Mountain Hawks to start all 18 regular season games, as an anchor on defense. She owns a team and Patriot League leading eight defensive saves, which stands eighth in the nation. She made two big defensive saves during a 1-0 win over Bucknell while making a pair against defending NEC Champion Rider as well. Mignoga also helped a Mountain Hawks' defense allow only two goals during Lehigh's three Patriot League wins - none vs. Bucknell and one against Colgate and Holy Cross.
Fratoni has enjoyed a stellar rookie campaign on both ends of the field, posting six points (one goal, four assists) on the season, tied for fourth on the team. After being held pointless in her first nine career games, Fratoni's six have come over the last nine, helping Lehigh go 5-4 in that stretch. Her first-career goal came against Siena (9/28) while she recorded an assist against Colgate and Penn, and two vs. Cornell. Fratoni was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 10.
The third-seeded Mountain Hawks continue to prepare for this weekend's Patriot League Tournament, which kicks off Friday in Washington D.C. Lehigh and Lafayette square off at 2 p.m. following an 11 a.m. matchup featuring host American against fourth-seeded Bucknell. The winners will meet for the Patriot League Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. The entire tournament will be held at American's Reeves Field and is available live through the Patriot League All-Access package.
