BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh sophomore goalkeeper Sierra Segear has been named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time in the last four weeks, as announced by the league on Monday. Segear stood tall in a trio of games, against Siena, American and Rider, making 46 saves to up her league-leading saves total and save percentage to 129 and 77.4, respectively.
Segear began on Wednesday by making 13 stops, allowing only two goals, as part of Lehigh's 3-2 win over Siena. She then made 11 saves at national power American in her first-career Patriot League game. Segear wrapped up the weekend with a career-high 22 saves to keep Lehigh close for much of the game against Rider. Despite a barrage of shots by the Broncs, the Mountain Hawks found themselves down by only two for the first 33 minutes of the first half, due in large part to Segear's strong play.
The Wilkes Barre, Pa. native was part of a defense which made 28 total saves against Rider (22 by Segear, four defensive saves by freshman Steph Fratoni and two by sophomore Marie Mignogna) which is good for 32nd in NCAA history and the most saves by any Division I team since Colgate made 34 against James Madison on October 11, 1998.
Segear now has four straight double-digit save performances and eight this season (in 10 games played).
The Mountain Hawks are back in action on Saturday for a big Patriot League showdown against Colgate at the Ulrich Sports Complex. They then welcome Cornell on Sunday. Both games are set for 1 p.m.
