BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's soccer seniors Liz Carlos and Glynn Fitzer have been named to the CoSIDA ESPN Academic All-District II Team, as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Tuesday. Carlos was named to the first team and is now eligible for Academic All-America status. The two are Lehigh's first Academic All-District honorees since Jen Fetsick in 2007.
The two Academic All-District honorees ties for the most in the Patriot League. Bucknell also placed a pair on the Academic All-District II Team.
Carlos has enjoyed a tremendous career, both on and off the field. Not only does she lead the team in goals with six and tied for first with 14 points, but she has also enjoyed success in the classroom as a first-year graduate student. After graduating with a 3.61 GPA in Accounting and Supply Chain Management, she is currently in her first semester in the master's of Health & Biopharmaceutical Economics program.
One early-season highlight came against Quinnipiac when Carlos scored a hat trick to earn Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week laurels. She has also converted all three of her penalty kick opportunities on the season. For her career, Carlos has 46 points via 17 goals and 12 assists heading into this weekend's Patriot League Tournament.
Fitzer cracked the second team, with a 3.48 GPA in Psychology. Tied with Carlos for the team lead in points, she has four goals and a team-leading six assists. A member of the Dean's List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, Fitzer is scheduled to graduate early this December.
A team co-captain on the field, Fitzer has helped lead a balanced offense which has seen five players score four or more goals. Like Carlos, she was named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week early in September following six points (two goals, two assists) at the Penn Invitational against Dayton and Saint Joseph's. A very durable player, she has not missed a game in her career. She's recorded 30 career points behind 10 goals and 10 assists.
Lehigh now looks ahead to the Patriot League Tournament in West Point, N.Y., beginning with the semifinals on Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks enter as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 Bucknell at 7:30 p.m. Earlier in the day, No. 1 seed Army will host No. 4 Colgate at 4 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are playing in their first Patriot League Tournament since 2006 and vying for their first league championship in school history.
