BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a memorable run all the way to the NCAA Tournament, the Lehigh women's soccer team has been honored for its work in the classroom with a 2009-10 NSCAA Academic Award, as announced on Wednesday. This marks the Mountain Hawks' eighth straight season of earning the award, which is presented to those college soccer teams posting a combined grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

“It is a great honor for our team to receive the Team Academic Award from the NSCAA,” said head coach Eric Lambinus. “We pride ourselves in developing student-athletes here at Lehigh and winning the award for the eighth straight year shows our dedication to that mission. I believe our success on the field is directly related to our hard work in the classroom.”

Lehigh posted a 3.15 cumulative GPA during the last academic year and is one of 436 women's teams nationally (across all levels) to be honored. This includes all of Division I, II and III. Lehigh is one of only 124 schools in the nation to have both its men's and women's soccer programs recognized.

The Mountain Hawks have garnered the team award every year dating back to 2003. The academic awards have been numerous for the squad. Seniors Liz Carlos and Glynn Fitzer recently earned ESPN Academic All-District laurels, while Carlos and senior Natalie Hojnacki were named to the first ever Patriot League All-Academic Team. Carlos was a first team honoree making her eligible to become the Mountain Hawks' first ever Academic All-American. The Academic All-America squad will be announced on Friday.

Lehigh wrapped up an unforgettable 2010 season last Friday at the NCAA Tournament in Virginia. The Mountain Hawks held the high-powered Cavaliers without a goal until the 66:28 mark in a highly competitive contest. The weekend prior, they won the program's first ever Patriot League Championship behind a pair of 1-0 wins over the top two seeds, Army and Bucknell.
