BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Murray H. Goodman ’48 Head Coach Brett Reed has announced the addition of three student-athletes to the Lehigh men’s basketball program beginning in the fall of 2010.  The newest Mountain Hawks include Anthony D’Orazio (Camden, N.J.), Mackey McKnight (Houston, Texas) and Kevin McCarthy (St. Clair Shores, Mich.).  D’Orazio and McKnight are guards, while McCarthy is a center.

“I am pleased to bring Mackey, Anthony and Kevin into our basketball program,” Reed explained.  “Each individual possesses a high basketball IQ, strong skill sets and a winning mentality.  I am pleased that we could add players to our team that come from respected programs and have solid basketball backgrounds.”

Anthony D’Orazio is a 6-2 guard who attends Camden Catholic High School, which is perennially one of the stronger programs in the state of New Jersey.  D’Orazio possesses a smooth jump shot with range extending to the three-point line, strong ball handling skills and a good feel for the game.  During his junior season at Camden Catholic, D’Orazio averaged 14.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, while shooting 47% from the floor.  Following the season D’Orazio garnered First-Team Olympic Conference accolades, while during the season he was named the MVP of the Olympic Cape Challenge and the Prime Time Shootout.  D’Orazio plays his AAU ball for South Jersey Select.

Reed offered his thoughts on the New Jersey native.  “Anthony is a player with multiple offensive tools.  He can make plays off the dribble, find open teammates and shoot the basketball.  His ability to create for himself and others is made possible by hit shot credibility and athleticism.”

A 6-0 point guard, Mackey McKnight attends Langham Creek High School in Texas.  A pure leader, McKnight is an extremely quick ball handler who uses his speed on both ends of the floor.  Last season McKnight helped lead Langham Creek to a 23-11 record while averaging 14.6 points, 6.8 assists (which ranked fourth in Houston) and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40% from three-point range.  McKnight was named the District MVP Runner Up and garnered First-Team All-District honors while also being named to the All-Regional Team.  In addition he served as team captain and won the Lobo Award.  During the offseason McKnight plays for the Houston Hoopstars.

“Mackey is a true point guard,” Reed commented.  “He has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and has an excellent feel for the game.  These intangibles along with vision, quickness and shooting touch will help him adjust quickly to running a team in college.”

The final member of Lehigh’s class of 2014 is Kevin McCarthy, a 6-9, 260-pound center from St. Clair Shores, Michigan.  McCarthy graduated from De La Salle Collegiate High School and is currently attending Philips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire where he is a post-graduate student.  Phillips Exeter plays in a highly competitive class in the NEPSAC.  McCarthy is a space-eater who is very effective with his back to the basket and can finish well with both hands.  McCarthy helped lead De La Salle, which is recognized as one of the more successful programs in the state of Michigan, to a 19-7 record last season, while averaging 10.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game.  McCarthy garnered First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-State accolades while also being named an All-League and All-Academic Team selection.

“Kevin has a strong combination of size and skill,” Reed said.  “He is an emerging player who can be physically imposing due to his size and strength.  In addition his work ethic will allow for greater scoring potential as he continues to develop.”
