BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the fourth time this season Lehigh freshman forward Kim Eng has been honored by the Patriot League for her on-field performance. Eng has already won three Patriot League Rookie of the Week awards this season and on Monday the New Jersey native added the first Offensive Player of the Week honor of her career. Eng netted her first career hat trick to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 3-2 win over a Holy Cross on Saturday, a win which leaves Lehigh in the hunt for a Patriot League tournament berth.
Eng accounted for all three goals in the road victory over the Crusaders which kept Lehigh’s postseason hopes alive. She opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game with her eleventh goal of the season on a fast break opportunity and later added a goal on a low chip shot to put the Mountain Hawks 2-0 at halftime.
Holy Cross rallied to tie the game in the second half, but with just under three minutes to play Eng scored off a rebound of her own shot to give the Mountain Hawks the lead and eventually the road win. Eng scored her three goals on six shots to record the first hat trick for a Lehigh player since Kelly Fox netted three goals in a win over Georgetown in September, 2008.
For the season, Eng has league-leading 13 goals and eight assists for a league-best 34 points. She has now scored game-winning goals in four of Lehigh’s six wins this season.
The Mountain Hawks (6-9 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) will look to clinch a Patriot League tournament berth when they wrap-up the regular season Sunday at American. Lehigh can clinch a tournament berth with a victory or outside help. Sunday’s game gets underway at 2 p.m. from Jacobs Field.
