BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman Madison Ingal has been named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday. Ingal scored a pair of goals, the first two of her career, to help lead Lehigh to its first victory of the season, a 4-1 triumph over Bryant Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
Ingal put Lehigh on the scoreboard just over 20 minutes into Saturday’s win over Bryant, when she pounced on a blocked shot and fired the ball into the cage for her first goal, giving the Mountain Hawks a lead which they would not relinquish. After Bryant cut the Lehigh lead to 2-1 in the second half, Ingal struck again, pouncing on a loose ball in the circle and depositing it into an empty cage to give the Mountain Hawks a 3-1 advantage.
For the season, the Basking Ridge, New Jersey native has appeared in all three games providing a spark off the bench for the Mountain Hawks forward line. Ingal has totaled four shots in Lehigh’s first three games. She becomes the first Lehigh field hockey player to be honored with a Patriot League weekly award in 2008, and the first Rookie of the Week since sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Miller earned the award twice last season.
Ingal and the Mountain Hawks will be back in action on Wednesday when they wrap-up a three game home stand against No. 16 Princeton. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex and all the action can be seen online at Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports College Broadcast.
