BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh sophomore Lauren Mains has been named the Patriot League’s Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Mains totaled over 185 scoreless minutes in net in two matches last weekend, made nine saves to help lead the Mountain Hawks to a 1-1 weekend on the pitch.
Mains registered her third shutout of the season in Lehigh’s 1-0 win at Marist on Sunday afternoon. She finished with four saves in the contest, none bigger than when she saved a penalty kick off the foot of Marist’s Lauren Tillotson in the 48th minute. Mains added three more stops in the second half, keeping the game scoreless long enough for classmate Glynn Fitzer to score the game’s only goal with just over two minutes to play.
Two days earlier against Monmouth, Mains made five saves and helped keep the dangerous Hawks attack off the scoreboard for 95 minutes.
For the season, Mains holds a 1.37 goals-against average and a league-leading .821 save percentage. Her 46 saves rank second in the league, while her three shutouts are tied for the most among league goalkeepers. The Goalkeeper of the Week award was the second of the year for Mains, who was also honored on September 8.
Sunday’s win over Marist improved Lehigh’s season record to 3-4-1. All three of the Mountain Hawks victories have come by 1-0 scores, with Mains posting a clean sheet in all three of those contests.
Mains and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will open a three match home stand on Friday night when they play host to Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time is set for 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
