Mountain Hawks back in action on Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh returns to the court on Sunday afternoon following a nearly two-week break as the Mountain Hawks travel to New Jersey to take on the Monmouth Hawks.  Lehigh was last in action on December 8 when the Brown and White downed Albany 65-64 in dramatic fashion at Stabler Arena.  Facing a 15-point deficit with 16 minutes remaining, the Mountain Hawks outscored the Great Danes 30-14 down the stretch, capped off by Zahir Carrington’s putback with one tick to go to lift Lehigh to victory.  Junior Marquis Hall netted a game-high 23 points in the win, while sophomore Michael Ojo came off the bench and drilled four second half three-pointers en route to 12 tallies as the Brown and White improved to 6-3 for the first time since the 2003-04 season.  Monmouth enters Sunday’s game following a 65-47 victory over Saint Peter’s on Friday evening at home.  The win was the Hawks first at home this season and snapped a five-game skid.

Behind Michael Ojo’s career-high 12 point performance, Lehigh’s bench outscored Albany 22 to 15.  It marked just the fourth time this season that the Mountain Hawks non-starters outscored their counterparts.  Lehigh is 2-2 in those games.

During his one-plus seasons as head coach, Brett Reed is 3-2 versus teams from the Northeast Conference.  That includes one win versus Monmouth and two wins against St. Francis (Pa.), and losses to Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State.

After ranking last in the Patriot League a season ago in three-point field goal percentage defense (40%), the Mountain Hawks have reversed that trend during the early going of this season.  Lehigh currently leads the Patriot League in three-point percentage defense, forcing teams into a 30.3% showing.

Sunday’s game tips off at 1:00 from Boylan Gymnasium in New Jersey.  The contest will be broadcast live on 91.3 WLVR-FM as well as Lehighsports.com with Matt Kerr and Marty Horn ’86 providing the commentary.  Pre-game coverage gets underway at 12:45.
