BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh placed a pair of student-athletes on the All-Patriot League teams, announced by the league on Tuesday. Junior forward Kelly Fox, Lehigh’s leading scorer during the 2008 season, was selected to the all-league first team, while sophomore back Taryn Hartzell represents the Mountain Hawks with a second team honor. The All-Patriot League teams are voted on by the league’s six head coaches.
Fox earned all-league recognition for the second straight season after earning a second team nod as a sophomore. She appeared in all 17 games for Lehigh in 2008 and paced the Mountain Hawks with seven goals and 16 points. On September 12, Fox recorded a hat trick, which included the game-winning goal in Lehigh’s 4-1 victory over Georgetown. The Wilmington, Delaware native led the Mountain Hawks in shots (43) and shots on goal (30), and scored six of her seven goals in an impressive five game stretch from September 10 to September 20.
For her career Fox now has 15 goals and 12 assists for 42 points. She should be a key component of Lehigh’s forward line in 2009.
Hartzell was honored with her first all-league selection, for her work in the back of Lehigh’s defense, in particular in keeping balls out of the goal cage. She started 15 games at sweeper, registering an incredible ten defensive saves which ranks the West Chester native among the national leaders in that category. Hartzell began the season with two defensive saves in a loss at Temple, and had two games (vs. Princeton and American) in which she recorded three defensive saves. She also saw extensive action as a striker on Lehigh’s offensive corners, picking up an assist versus Georgetown and netting her first career goal versus Villanova.
The Patriot League will announce its major award winners at its pre-tournament banquet in Washington, D.C.
