BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Off to its best start since 1997, Lehigh goes for its third win in as many games tonight as the Mountain Hawks welcome the 2008 Northeast Conference regular season champion Rider Broncs to Stabler Arena. The Brown and White raced past Delaware State on Monday in the home opener 76-58 as four Mountain Hawks hit for double figures, led by Marquis Hall’s 16 points, while senior Phil Anderson added 13 points and a career-best eight rebounds. The Broncs, who won a school record 23 games a season ago, dropped their season opener to Atlantic-10 member St. Joseph’s 69-57 on November 14. Rider was led on offense that night by Ryan Thompson with 19 points to go along with six boards, while Mike Ringgold scored 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Lehigh has connected on more than half of its field goal attempts in each of the first two games. The last time the Mountain Hawks shot 50 percent or better in back-to-back games was December 9, 2006 at Miami (50-percent) and December 11, 2006 versus Haverford (52.4-percent).
Behind the play of Marquis Hall and Prentice Small, Lehigh handed out 21 assists on Monday, the Mountain Hawks most since dishing out 22 helpers in a win over Stony Brook on December 5, 2007. Both Hall and Small set new career-highs with seven assists versus Delaware State.
Wednesday’s game tips off just after 7:00 on Thursday from Stabler Arena. Plenty of tickets remain and can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office, located in Grace Hall, or by logging onto Lehighsports.com.
