Mountain Hawks fall on road to NJIT

With the loss, the Brown and White move to 5-12 on the season, while NJIT goes to 11-7.
Lehigh head coach Jenny Maurer said her team will have to move on quickly from this loss to prepare for a matchup with archrival
“They were a solid team,” Maurer said. “I don’t want to take anything away from them, but I definitely think we could have had a different result.”
Lehigh remained competitive throughout the match, staying close to NJIT in the two opening sets and winning the third. After dropping sets one and two by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 respectively, the Mountain Hawks battled back for a 25-18 third-set win.
“We were in complete control of that set,” Maurer said. “In that set we passed well and we took them right out of their offense.”
The momentum quickly turned back in NJIT’s favor, as they went on to win the fourth set 25-14 to close out the match.
Despite the loss, the Mountain Hawks showed signs of improvement in many statistical categories. While the hitting percentages were down – the team hit just .117 on its attacks – Angelika Kopacz put up solid attacking numbers with 19 kills and 12 digs for the double-double. Three players – Kopacz, Emma Melendez and Brittany Thurston – scored at least 10 digs in the match.
Lehigh was also able to register 13 blocks in the match, with Kristin Musbach, Rebecca Slegers and Chelsea Sheridan all registering three blocks apiece.
“That’s been something we’ve really been working on trying to develop,” Maurer said. “It was nice to get some points from the blocking.”
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Friday, October 10, when they square off with archrival
