WEST POINT, N.Y. – Despite being eliminated from postseason contention, Lehigh put together one of its most impressive performances of the season, as the Mountain Hawks shut out Army 2-0 in their season finale Friday night at Clinton Field. Lehigh scored twice within a two minute span in the second half, the first two goals yielded by the Black Knights in Patriot League play, as the Mountain Hawks prevented the Black Knights from winning the Patriot League regular season championship outright.

“As a group, I think we showed the level that we can play at,” said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin. “Unfortunately, we were unable to play at this level during our earlier league games, but tonight’s game was a positive result as we wrapped up our season on a strong note and picked up a win for the seniors in their final game.”

The first half was scoreless and saw the Mountain Hawks hold an 8-7 edge in shots, but Lehigh dominated the second half outshooting Army by a 16-4 margin.

Lehigh took the lead in the 61st minute as junior Natalie Hojnacki netted her second goal of the season, and the first allowed by Army in a Patriot League game this year. Two minutes later, Lehigh capitalized on its only corner kick of the half, as freshman Jana Basubas scored off a feed from senior Hailey Coonrad.

The Mountain Hawks defense took care of the rest, limiting the Black Knights to just 11 shots and just one on goal. Senior Julie Kafka earned the start in her final game and made one save to earn the shutout.

Hojnacki matched Army’s shot total for the game with eleven by herself. Junior Liz Carlos added seven shots including three on goal.

Alex Lostetter made eight saves for Army, which heads into the Patriot League tournament at 11-5-2 overall, 4-1-2 in the league.

Lehigh’s season comes to an end with a 6-10-1 record overall and a 2-5 mark in league games.
