BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh freshman forward Ali MacLeod has been recognized as the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week, it was announced on Monday. MacLeod netted her second goal of the season to help lead the Mountain Hawks to their first Patriot League victory of the season, a 2-0 triumph over rival Lafayette Saturday night in Easton.
MacLeod scored the first goal of a Lehigh player in over 395 minutes of action, when she collected her own shot off the post and deposited it in the back of the net to give Lehigh a two-goal lead just seven minutes into the contest.
The Groton, Massachusetts native totaled three shots in two games last week. The Mountain Hawks had failed to score a goal in their previous four games prior to Saturday night, but benefitted from a Lafayette own goal in the fifth minute, before MacLeod’s strike two minutes later.
For the season, MacLeod leads the Brown and White with two goals and four points. She has started 11 of 14 games at forward and ranks among the team leaders in shots (20) and shots on goal (11).
Also on Monday, sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Mains earned honorable mention from the league for her efforts in the Mountain Hawks’ win over the Leopards. Mains made seven saves en route to her fifth victory of the season and fifth shutout.
The Mountain Hawks (5-8-1 overall, 1-3-0 Patriot League) will return to the pitch on Friday night when they welcome the Bucknell Bison in a key Patriot League matchup.
