BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh returns to the turf for its second Patriot League contest of the season when the Mountain Hawks visit Bucknell Saturday at 2 p.m. The game marks the final game of a season-long five game road trip that has not been kind to the Brown and White. Lehigh has dropped all four of its games on the road trip and five straight overall, but the Mountain Hawks (3-8 overall, 0-1 Patriot League) can get right back into the Patriot League mix with a road win against the Bison.
The current road trip has turned into a tale of two halves for the Mountain Hawks, who have held their own with opponents in the first half of each of their last four games, but have failed to score a goal in the second half of any of those road contests.
The Mountain Hawks opened Patriot League play with a 3-1 setback at Colgate last Saturday. Senior Kalynn Davies netted her second goal of the season to put Lehigh ahead early, but the Raiders tied the game right before halftime and won it with a pair of second half tallies.
Junior Kelly Fox continues to lead the Mountain Hawks in scoring with six goals and 12 points on the season. Senior Kara Zweizig has contributed eight points, with two goals and four assists, while Davies (two goals, two assists), junior Lindsay Smith (one goal, four assists) and freshman Madison Ingal (three goals) round out Lehigh’s top five scorers with six points apiece.
Defensively, sophomore Taryn Hartzell continues to rank among the national leaders in defensive saves with seven. In the goal cage, sophomores Jessica Miller and Lilia Stefaniwsky have both seen time and played well in stretches.
Bucknell, like Lehigh, will be gunning for its first league win of the season on Saturday. The Bison are 7-4 overall, and dropped their league opener 2-1 in double overtime at Lafayette last Saturday. Bucknell features a potent offensive attack that has netted 32 goals in 11 games this season. Amanda Faust leads the Bison with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Bucknell has five players who have scored at least ten points this season. Jessie Atieh has started ten of 11 games in the goal cage and owns a 1.75 goals-against average.
Lehigh leads the series versus Bucknell 21-12-1 and has won the last two meetings, including a 3-2 overtime win last year in Bethlehem. The Mountain Hawks have also enjoyed success on the Bison’s home turf, winning in their last two trips to Lewisburg.
Saturday’s game gets underway at 2 p.m. from Graham Field.
