Lehigh falls to Bucknell in three games

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Lehigh opened up Patriot League play Friday night with a match at Bucknell.  The Bison beat the Mountain Hawks in three games, with game scores of 30-24, 30-23 and 31-29.  Lehigh falls to 3-9 on the season, while Bucknell improves to 7-8.  Shannon Spafford led the Mountain Hawks with a double-double, recording ten kills and ten digs.

 

Lehigh got out of the gate slow, hitting -0.77 in its first game and .000 in the second game, however, they showed signs of improvement by the third game.  They forced the Bison into extra points in the third game, before ultimately dropping the match.  The Brown and White hit .222 in the third game, almost equal to Bucknell’s .237. 

 

Spafford’s ten kills and ten digs both led the team, and she also recorded a team high six blocks in the match.  Brittany Thurston was second on the team with eight kills, while Mo McReynolds contributed eight digs.

 

Jenna Henderson and Kaitlin Segal led the Bison, with 14 and 11 kills respectively.  Heidi Kamp hit a match high .438 with nine kills for Bucknell, while also recording five digs and eight total blocks.

 

Lehigh returns to action tomorrow, when they travel to Colgate to take on the Raiders.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m., in Hamilton, N.Y.
