BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh looks to keep its unbeaten streak intact as the Mountain Hawks welcome the Hawks of Saint Joseph’s to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Friday night. The Mountain Hawks are unbeaten in their last four contests, including a pair of draws against Villanova and Monmouth last weekend, to run their record to 3-1-2.
Both of last weekend’s draws can be considered positive results. Lehigh held a 1-0 lead over a borderline top-25 Villanova team, before giving up the equalizer with five minutes to play. On Sunday, sophomore Liz Carlos helped Lehigh erase an early 1-0 deficit with a goal and an assist, but again the Mountain Hawks had to settle for a draw as Monmouth tied the game late. Carlos leads the Mountain Hawks in scoring with seven points, and shares the goal scoring lead with freshman Glynn Fitzer and senior Jen Fetsick.
Saint Joseph’s comes in with a 2-3 record, but when the Hawks have faltered, they have lost badly. The Hawks have been outscored 18-3 on the season, including a 5-1 loss at Georgetown in their last game last Friday. Saint Joseph’s owns 1-0 wins over Drexel and Robert Morris, but has lost to Delaware, Penn and Georgetown by a combined 18-1. Senior Shannon Osborn, sophomore Sarah O’Malley and freshman Lauren Sawyer have the Saint Joseph’s goals. Sophomore Megan Bastianelli has played every minute of every game in goal so far this year for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph’s leads the all-time series 4-3-1; including a 4-3 overtime win last season here in Bethlehem. Lehigh and Saint Joseph’s played to a 1-1 in 2005, while the last Mountain Hawk win came in 2004, by a 2-1 score, with then-freshman Jen Fetsick scoring her first career goal, the game winner, in the 88th minute.
Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. from the Ulrich Sports Complex.
