Mountain Hawks open home slate with 3-1 win

“We were anxious to get out and perform in front of our home crowd,” said head coach Jenny Maurer. “It feels great to go out there and get a win especially against a team like Wagner that would not back down for the entire match.”
Lehigh came out of the gate fast, taking control earlier in the first two games to come away with easy wins. The Mountain Hawks had a chance to put the match away in the third game, however, the Seahawks would not go away quietly as they forced a fourth game.
The Brown and White came out flying in the fourth game and did not look back, as they cruised to the 30-22 win.
“I didn’t really need to say anything to them after the third game,” added Maurer. “We knew they weren’t going to let us win, so we had to go out there and get it.”
Shannon Spafford recorded a double-double with a match high 18 kills and a team high 12 digs. She also hit .438 for the match. As a team, Lehigh hit .211 for the match including .300 in the second game and .297 in the fourth game. The team also had a season high 55 kills, while freshman Brittany Dickinson had a season high 39 assists.
