BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The official start of summer in the Lehigh Valley also signifies the start of summer camp season at Lehigh. The first of three straight weeks of Lehigh wrestling camps began Saturday and runs through Wednesday afternoon. Boys from ages 8-18 are taking part in the technique camp, led by Lehigh wrestling coach Greg Strobel and members Mountain Hawks.

Campers are enjoying expert instruction from Lehigh coaches and wrestlers inside Taylor Gym as well as venerable Grace Hall. The camp’s opening session on Saturday featured a pair of 1984 Olympic champions: Bobby Weaver ’83 and Jeff Blatnick as guest clinicians. Weaver is the only Lehigh wrestler to capture an Olympic gold medal.

Local high school coaches and former Lehigh wrestlers also serve as guest clinicians and speak on a variety of topics throughout the week.  Aside from the normal instruction and combat, campers also have time for other recreational activities including swimming.

This week’s technique camp runs through Wednesday, June 20. A second week of technique camp will run from June 23-27. The final week of camp is for “team duals” and is open high school and junior high teams. That camp features 70% combat matches and 30% instruction and runs from June 30 to July 3.
