Mountain Hawks fall in both games to Pittsburgh

In the first game, Pitt scored six of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. With runners on first and second, Morgan Kielty belted a three-run home run to put the Panthers ahead 7-0. Pitt then added two more runs in the sixth.
Junior Joe Ercolano, sophomore Geoff Campbell and freshman Glenn Seitz each went 1-for-2 at the plate. Junior Joe Matteo picked up his second loss of the season after pitching five innings and allowing seven runs. Kyle Landis earned the win and pitched all seven innings for the Panthers.
In the second game, Lehigh did not get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the eighth and scored all of its runs in that inning. O’Connor started the scoring by driving in junior Kyle Dunleavy, who was on second base. Junior Joe Ercolano made it on base after he was hit by a pitch and Ercolano and O’Connor each advanced a base after Mike Bassage threw a wild pitch. Salemme’s hit brought in O’Connor. With runners on the corners, Bet hit his triple to send Ercolano and Salemme home.
Senior Joel Hockman picked up his first loss of the season. Hockman was on the mound for three innings, allowed four runs and struck out two batters. Ryan Dunford struck out five batters and allowed no runs in 7.1 innings to earn the win.
The Mountain Hawks return to action at noon on Tuesday for a doubleheader at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
