Lehigh battles back to upend Florida Tech 5-4

MELBOURNE, Fla. – One day after falling to James Madison, Lehigh bounced back with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Florida Tech in Satellite Beach. The Mountain Hawks dropped two of three doubles matches, but rallied to win four of six singles matches to win in the best-of-nine Division II format. Lehigh improves to 4-5 with the victory, while the Panthers fall to 2-5 with the setback.

 

The Panthers earned doubles victories at the first and second flights. Lehigh picked up its first point of the match at third doubles, where freshman Julie Arthofer and sophomore Ruthie Furman won by an 8-2 score.

 

In singles play, the Mountain Hawks picked up gritty three set victories from senior Gwen Dwyer and sophomore Allie Schwartz. Dwyer defeated Michaela Horvathova 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, while Schwartz defeated Nicole David 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. The Brown and White put the match away with easy victories from senior Cessa Murasko-Blank and sophomore Victoria Vityuk at fifth and sixth singles respectively.

 

The Mountain Hawks will wrap up their spring break trip on Wednesday, when they face Southern Indiana at noon from Satellite Beach, Florida.
