“It was a very important win for us,” said Troyan. “I thought it was a great team effort tonight. The girls came out and played hard and it was a nice tribute for our three seniors—Adrienne, Sara [Ellis] and Emily [Geosits].”
Senior Sara Ellis opened the game with a three-pointer and sophomore Melissa Rich added a jumper to give Lehigh a 5-0 lead at the 18:12 mark. Holy Cross would tied the game at five after Bethany O’Dell made her second foul shot at the 16:01 mark, but Blount gave Lehigh a 7-5 advantage almost two minutes later. After Kathy Gruzynski tied the game for the Crusaders, Crites gave the Mountain Hawks another two-point lead with a jumper with 12:59 to go. Gruzynski would be responsible for tying the game two more times in the half, with the next tie occurring at 12:32 to make it a nine all game and then at 5:03 to go to tie the game at 16-16.
Adrienne Blount’s jumper at the 4:01 mark gave Lehigh the lead, but Holy Cross reeled off four straight Kaitlin Foley points to make the score 21-20 in favor of Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks would take a 24-21 lead into halftime despite only shooting 29.0 percent (9-for-31) from the floor in the first half.
After a close game for the first couple of minutes of the second half that saw the Crusaders come to within one point of the Mountain Hawks two times, Lehigh opened up the scoring and went on a 12-2 run in a span of nearly five minutes to take a commanding 42-29 lead with 11:21 to go. The Mountain Hawks eventually got a 14-point lead off a Rich jumper at 6:39, but Holy Cross would get a trey by O’Dell, a jumper by Foley and a lay-up by Ashley McLaughlin to cut Lehigh’s lead in half and make the score 46-39 with 4:01 remaining. Lehigh held the Crusaders to just four points in the last 1:11 to hang on for the win and end a three-game home losing skid.
Foley and O’Dell led the Crusaders with 11 points each, while O’Dell grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
In addition to her 12 points, Blount also grabbed eight rebounds for the Brown and White. Both Ellis and Geosits dished out three assists, with freshman Kristen Dalton recording the team’s only block.
