Lehigh heads to Connecticut to face Blue Devils

11/30/2007 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Lehigh hits the road Saturday as the Mountain Hawks make their first-ever trip to Central Connecticut State to take on the defending Northeast Conference Champion Blue Devils.  Lehigh is coming off a heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Quinnipiac on Wednesday at home in a game that featured 13 ties and 19 lead changes.  Sophomores Marquis Hall (27 points) and Zahir Carrington (23 points) both hit for career-highs, while senior Bryan White did a little bit of everything, scoring 14 points, pulling down eight rebounds, and blocking three shots.  The Mountain Hawks will try and snap their two-game road losing streak this afternoon versus a Blue Devils team that fell to LaSalle on Wednesday in Philadelphia 59-55.  Both of these teams are very young with a combined three seniors on the two rosters, and 19 combined freshmen and sophomores.

Wednesday’s double overtime affair with Quinnipiac marked the first time Lehigh needed two overtimes to determine a winner at home since 1997 when the Mountain Hawks and archrival Lafayette played an extra ten minutes.  The Leopards won that game 90-87.  Lehigh has not won a double overtime game since 1989 when the Brown and White downed Drexel 94-92.

Lehigh has handed out a total of 33 assists in its last two games, led by Marquis Hall’s 15 helpers.  The Mountain Hawks’ 18 assists versus Quinnipiac were a season high and their most since handing out 20 in a win over Haverford last season.

Saturday’s tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm from Detrick Gymnasium in Connecticut.  The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com with veteran Matt Kerr and Steve Lomangino on the call.
