Lehigh closes out road trip at Maryland on Friday

Lehigh closes out a three-game road trip on Friday afternoon with a visit to College Park to take on the Maryland Terrapins.  The Mountain Hawks had their two-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday evening in New York by the hot shooting of the Albany Great Danes in a 78-66 setback at SEFCU Arena.  Lehigh’s starting frontcourt of Zahir Carrington and Bryan White combined for 26 points, five rebounds, four steals, and two blocks, and the Mountain Hawks outscored Albany 44-32 in the second half, but could not overcome a slow start that included a 38 percent shooting performance in the opening 20 minutes.  Maryland is also looking to rebound from a loss as the Terps dropped their last two games, which took place in Kansas City at the CBE Classic against No. 1 UCLA and Missouri on Monday and Tuesday.

Lehigh has outscored opponents 172-155 in the second half this season, scoring 35 or more points in three of the four second halves.  The Mountain Hawks are shooting 51 percent after halftime, including 46 percent from three-point range.  Lehigh has outscored each of its opponents in the second half, except St. Francis, which scored one more point than the Mountain Hawks (38-37).

The Mountain Hawks roster is comprised of ten freshmen or sophomores and just four upperclassmen.  Entering today’s game, only two players (Anderson, White) have appeared in 50 career games, while seven Mountain Hawks have not even played in ten.

Friday’s tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm from Comcast Center in College Park.  The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 as well as Lehighsports.com beginning at 3:30.  Veteran Matt Kerr and Jeff Tourial will call all of the action.
