Lehigh falls in three games to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Despite out hitting Army in two of three games, the Mountain Hawks lost their ninth conference game of the season on Friday night. The Black Knights won the match 3-0, with game scores of 30-24, 30-22 and 30-25. Shannon Spafford led the Lehigh attack with eight kills, eight digs and five blocks. The Mountain Hawks fall to 5-19 (2-9) on the year, while Army improves to 21-4 (9-2).
In the first game the Black Knights jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, led by Lauren Teal with three kills and Briana Stemick with two kills. The Mountain Hawks would come back to cut the deficit to 19-16, with Kristin Musbach and Mo McReynolds each recording two kills.
Army was finally able to break the game open with four straight points to increase its lead to 28-20. The Black Knights put the game away with a kill by Maureen Bannon. Despite losing the game, the Mountain Hawks out hit the Black Knights, converting on 25.7% of their attacks while committing just two errors. McReynolds led the team with four blocks, while Musbach added three kills and two blocks.
Army would not let the Mountain Hawks get as close in the second game, jumping out to a quick 10-0 lead with six service aces by Bannon. The Black Knights continued their dominate play throughout the game and won 30-22.
Lehigh would not go away quietly in the third game, capitalizing on seven Army errors early on, to take a commanding 10-2 lead. The Black Knights would climb back into the game, reducing the Lehigh lead to 21-18. Rachel Dunn led the Army attack, recording three kills and a service ace. Army would tie the game at 23-23 and then went on an 8-2 run to end the game and the match.
