Lehigh competes at MacDonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mountain Hawks continued their season this weekend at the MacDonald Cup, hosted by Yale University, and Lehigh finished in a tie for 17th place out of the 26 schools in attendance.  The Mountain Hawks shot a 620 for the weekend, which included a first-round score of 309 and a second round tally of 311.  TCU won the team championship with a score of 573 (285, 288), and the Horned Frogs were followed by Yale (286, 292 = 578), USC Upstate (295, 296 = 591), Dartmouth (305, 297 = 602), and Seton Hall (304, 299) and Harvard (300, 303), who tied for fifth place with identical scores of 603.  Lehigh’s top finisher was captain Steve Suarez, who shot a 154 (75, 79), which placed him in a tie for 54th place overall.

 

Other Lehigh competitors were Eric Feather who tied for 61st place with a score of 155 (79, 76), Duncan Zeiders who tied for 68th place with a 156 (78, 78), Shane Gilroy, who finished in a tie for 80th place with a 157 (79, 78) and Will Robinson who shot a 159 (77, 82) to finish in a tie for 92nd place.

 

The individual champion was Yale’s Taylor Hakes who finished with a 142 (69, 73), while TCU’s Travis Woolf (70, 73) and Tom Hoge (74, 69) both shot a 143 to tie for second place.

 

The Mountain Hawks return to action on October 20 when they host the Lehigh Invitational at Saucon Valley Country Club.  Tee time is set for 9:00 AM.
