BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s postseason fate will be determined this weekend, but first the Mountain Hawks will play their final non-league game of the regular season on Wednesday night as they host the Drexel Dragons. The Mountain Hawks are looking to rebound after a pair of losses to nationally ranked foes
The Mountain Hawks know that with a win over Colgate on Saturday they will go to the Patriot League tournament for the third time in four years. The Brown and White will look to use Wednesday’s game to build momentum into that contest. Lehigh was outscored 10-3 in its two losses last week, but junior Kara Zweizig did score in both games. Classmate Kalynn Davies added her league-leading 12th goal of the season, while senior Christy Smith continues to be a steadying influence in the midfield. With a win on Wednesday, Lehigh (7-8) will climb back to .500 overall on the season.
Drexel has already clinched its spot in the CAA tournament with a 3-0 win over Northeastern on Friday. Drexel has won its last two games to improve to 9-7 overall. Susan Ciufo leads the Dragons with five goals, while Carolina Gibernau and Amanda Kicera are tied for the lead in points with 12. Colleen McAndrew has played every minute of every game in goal for Drexel. Like Lehigh’s Christy Smith, Drexel’s Sarah Gostomski was recently selected to play in the NFHCA Division I Senior All-Star Game on November 17.
Lehigh leads the all-time series 14-11 versus the Dragons. Last year, the Mountain Hawks prevailed 3-2 with Christy Smith, Jennifer Cochran and Zweizig scoring Lehigh’s goals. Zweizig scored the game-winner with less than three minutes to play.
Wednesday night’s game gets underway at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast online at Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports.
