TEANECK, N.J. – Lehigh put forth a strong showing on the road against Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday night, but lost the match 3-1.  The game scores were 21-30, 30-27, 16-30 and 20-30.  Lehigh is now 4-15 on the season, while the Knights climb back to .500, standing at 10-10.  Shannon Spafford had 15 kills and 12 digs for a double-double to lead the Mountain Hawks on offense, while Megan Philbrick also recorded 15 kills and hit .433 on the match for the Knights.

“We came out slow but came back in the second game and played very well but we just weren’t able to maintain,” said head coach Jenny Maurer.  “We’re getting there bit by bit and learning from it.”

In the first game the Mountain Hawks fell behind early and could not recoup, as they lost the game 30-21.  Lehigh committed eight errors with only nine kills, for a hitting percentage of .027, while the Knights recorded 14 kills with just four errors for a hitting percentage of .286.

Mo McReynolds led Lehigh with three kills in the game and Brittany Thurston added another two for the Mountain Hawks attack.  Fairleigh Dickinson was led offensively by Philbrick with six kills while Ruth Levy had a game high nine assists.

In the second game, the teams battled back and forth with the game tied late at 20 points each.  Lehigh pulled away late and held on for the 30-27 win, to tie the match at 1-1.  Spafford had a game high six kills to lead the Brown and White to victory.  McReynolds added another three kills while Brittany Dickinson had seven assists to contribute to the Lehigh attack.

Fairleigh Dickinson would not let Lehigh hang out as they came out flying in the third game winning, 30-16.  The Knights were once again led by Philbrick on offense, recording four kills, while Rebecca Tierney added two more to secure the victory.  The Mountain Hawks did not help their own cause, as they committed 13 errors while recording just seven kills.

In the final game the Brown and White tried its best to force a deciding game, however, the Knights were just too strong late in the match as they held on for a 30-20.  For the match, Lehigh hit just .035, recording 39 kills with 34 errors.  Fairleigh Dickinson committed 20 errors with 52 kills to hit .237 for the match.

The Mountain Hawks are back in action this weekend when they host a pair of Patriot League rivals.  First the Colgate Raiders invade Taylor Gym at 7 p.m. on Friday, and then the Bucknell Bison visit Lehigh at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
